Washington. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on the Russian-Ukrainian war and said he could not agree more with the Indian Prime Minister’s statement that it was not not an era or a time for war. During his remarks, the US Secretary of State said, “I really want to underscore what Prime Minister Modi said. From what I have heard Prime Minister Modi has said now is not the time for war and we cannot agree more with that statement. Recall that Prime Minister Modi recently told the Russian Prime Minister during his much-awaited bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit that we are not in wartime. Prime Minister Modi has said that today’s era is not one of war and I told you about it on the phone. Today we will have the opportunity to talk about how we can move forward on the path to peace. India and Russia have been side by side for many decades. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in a joint speech that this dispute is in no one’s interest. The best way forward is to return to dialogue and diplomacy.
Describing the partnership between India and the United States as “the most important” in the world, Blinken said that “there are no two countries that have more capacity, opportunity and responsibility to try to Shaping the Future”. He also addressed the issue raised by the Indian minister on the adequacy of the US$450 million F-16 security assistance to Pakistan, and said, “This is an ongoing program for the F16, which Pakistan has known for a long time. It’s nothing new, they have to maintain what they have. We have a responsibility and an obligation to anyone to whom we provide military equipment.
India’s commentary
