The Hague: Press conference on the new complaint to the International Criminal Court

On September 20, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) will join the International Center for Justice for the Palestinians (ICJP) press conference following the hand-delivery of a legal complaint on behalf of the family of Shireen Abu Akleh at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
At 11 a.m. CEST/10 a.m. BST on September 20, 2022, the ICJP will hold a press conference in The Hague to announce the filing of a new complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and the assassination of journalist Ali Samoudi on May 11, 2022 while covering raids by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank.
The conference will bring together attorneys from Bindmans LLP and Doughty Street Chambers who represent victims and their families, as well as representatives from the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) and the ICJP.
The group will be joined by Anton Abu Akleh, Shireen’s brother, who will speak on behalf of the family.
The conference will also hear from representatives of Forensic Architecture and Al-Haq who will present some of the findings of their forensic investigation into Shireen’s murder.
These journalists join a long list of journalists targeted by the IOF in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). Legal submissions alleging that Israel systematically targets journalists working in Palestine and its failure to properly investigate killings of media workers constitute war crimes were submitted in April 2022 to the ICC..
All of the journalists featured in both complaints were wearing clearly marked press vests at the time they were targeted.
