The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. holds a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Lake Shore Drive, to speak about resolutions on gun violence, reform of prisons, tackling voter rights abuses and attacks on other social justice issues.

Reverend Jackson will be joined by clergy, labor, civic leaders and supporters.

“We call on elected officials to provide immediate relief from soaring food and gas prices that are creating financial hardship for millions of people in Chicago and beyond,” said Reverend Jackson.

“We are also making a moral plea to release WNBA player Brittney Griner who is being held in Russia,” Reverend Jackson said.

Griner was arrested on February 17 for carrying hash vape cartridges in her luggage at Moscow airport. Reverend Jackson sends a letter to President Biden about these issues.

Reverend Jackson plans to travel south to vote in August. In commemoration of the August 28th 59th March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, Reverend Jackson is making a clear call to voters to go to the polls in these midterm elections.

Today’s press conference is the culmination of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s 56th annual six-day international conference. This year’s theme was “Making America Fair and Equal: PUSHing or New Markets in 2022”.

Rainbow PUSH Coalition is a progressive, multi-racial, multi-issue international organization that was formed in December 1996 by the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. through the merger of two organizations he founded Operation PUSH People United to Serve Humanity (established 1971 ) and the Rainbow Coalition (founded in 1984). With headquarters in Chicago and offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Oakland, the organization strives to make the American Dream a reality for all citizens while advocating for the peace and justice in the world. RPC is dedicated to improving the lives of all by serving as a voice for the voiceless. Its mission is to protect, defend and achieve civil rights by leveling the economic and educational rules of the game while promoting peace and justice in the world.
