Press conference and more – rAVe [PUBS]
This year’s ISE is coming to Barcelona from May 10-13, 2022. Speaking at a press briefing last week, Integrated Systems Events Managing Director Mike Blackman said: “I am delighted and honored to be here today, five years after Integrated Systems Events, and its co-owners AVIXA and CEDIA, have decided to move Integrated Systems Europe to Barcelona. After 16 years in Amsterdam, it was time for us to find a new home for our show, and in just two weeks, ISE 2022 will open its doors at Gran Vía, Fira de Barcelona.
What to expect:
ISE is a showcase for visual and audio products and solutions where manufacturers and service providers will showcase the latest ProAV innovations developed for the commercial and residential market sectors.
Features of this year’s show:
- More than 800 exhibitors at the show.
- Six technological zones (multipurpose audio-visual, education and collaboration, digital signage and digital signage, professional audio, lighting and staging, residential and intelligent building) distributed in five halls of Gran Vía.
- 45,000 m of exhibition space.
- Among the brands present at ISE 2022 are Alfalite, Barco, Christie, Google, KNX, LANG, Microsoft, Panasonic, Samsung, Shure, Sony and Zoom.
According to ISE, on the residential side, visitors will be able to see the latest flat screen TVs, in-wall speakers, projectors, projection screens, movie theaters, lighting and security systems. Some of the major residential brands exhibiting at ISE 2022 include Artcoustic, Crestron, L-Acoustics, KNX, Rako Controls, Sony, Storm Audio and many more.
Who participates ?
During the press conference, Blackman spoke about the composition of the participants according to the registration.
This year, according to the graph below, nearly 80% of attendees can be categorized as integrators, manufacturers, consultants, live event producers, software developers/programmers, or UX/CX developers from design companies.
What’s on the list
In addition to networking opportunities, there will be a five-day conference program running throughout the week, covering topics ranging from retail technology to control rooms, live events,… education and more. ISE says more than 150 thought leaders and experts are confirmed to participate in the daily program.
Professional development opportunities are offered through certification and apprenticeship programs organized by AVIXA and CEDIA, both locally and in the city.
Keynote Day One is from Refik Anadol: “Exploring the Heritage of Tomorrow” at 6:00 p.m. on May 10. Anadol is a media artist and pioneer in data aesthetics and artificial intelligence. He will give the keynote speech at ISE 2022. A special event will also take place on the facade of Casa Batlló on the evening of Saturday May 7, thanks to the collaboration between Anadol and OFFF Barcelona, a festival of creativity, of art and digital design — and ISE 2022.
Keynote Day Two will be by Alan Greenberg: “Next Generation Immersive Entertainment” on May 11 at 6:00 p.m. As CEO and co-founder of Illuminarium, Greenberg leads a groundbreaking global experiential entertainment company created by world leaders in cinematic immersion, interactive content and theater design.
ISE will also feature the ISE Immersive Art Experience. For this year’s show, ISE worked with award-winning company Exhibition Hub to curate a unique 650m² virtual reality experience art installation at Fira Gran Via, which combines several of its award-winning immersive art experiences.
I RISE at Plaça d’Espanya is a video mapping show that will explore the themes of hope, regeneration and renewal. It is created and produced by Barcelona-based Flaix Studio and will run from Monday May 9 to Wednesday May 11 at 9:00 p.m. each evening.
Other notable information about the ISE
At the press conference, Blackman opened the floor for questions. I asked about some of the new technologies we might expect to see at the show this year, and whether that technology might span two or more AV sectors:
“If we look at collaboration at home and in the workplace, we have to live with hybrid work situations…an increasing amount of bandwidth for work, tools, hardware, software, and other solutions. ” — @ISE_Mike #AVtweeps @AVIXA @CEDIA @stephlbeckett #ISE2022 @ISE_Show pic.twitter.com/ofPji5KyEe

So, #AVtweeps, expect to continue to see commercial solutions, especially as we continue to have home offices to use different UCC solutions.
Blackman also commented on the Russo-Ukrainian War:
“From our point of view, we are sorry and concerned about the situation of the Ukrainian people. No one deserves to go through this situation in these times. We also sympathize with our Russian colleagues. … We won’t have Russian exhibitors at ISE, but we won’t limit the participation of Russian individuals.
Blackman and Dave Labuskes, CEO of AVIXA, also spent time during the briefing discussing some key takeaways from the ISE show and our industry.
- The AV industry is expected to reach $329 billion by 2026, with average growth rates of 7.2% CAGR*
- Across Spain, ProAV revenue 3 billion euros in 2022, will increase by 6.2% by 2026*
