Mumbai: Union Minister Narayan Rane and son walk to police station to take statement in Disha Salian defamation case
Union Minister Narayan Rane and his MP son Nitesh Rane went to Malvani Police Station on Saturday to take their statements in the case registered against them for allegedly making defamatory remarks and spreading false information on Disha Salian, the former manager of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, an official has said. Large numbers of Rane’s supporters gathered and shouted slogans outside the police station in the western suburbs as the BJP leader and his son arrived there around 1.45pm, the official said.
The duo will record their statement in front of the investigator assigned to the case, he said. Malvani Police had earlier sent a notice to Nitesh Rane to appear before the Investigator on Thursday and his father on Friday, but they informed the police, through their lawyer, that as the legislature of the State is in session and that they would prefer to carry out their duties on the dates indicated and appear before the police on Saturday, he said. A court here on Friday had granted interim protection from arrest until March 10 to the father-son duo, who had posted early bail at the Dindoshi Sessions Court in the suburb of Malad, fearing arrest in this case.
According to the FIR recorded by the Malvani police, remarks were made by the Union minister on February 19 during a press conference, where his son was also present. During the press conference, the minister made certain statements regarding Salian’s death.
Salian allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a skyscraper in the suburb of Malad on June 8, 2020, six days before actor Rajput (34) was found hanged in his apartment in the suburb of Bandra.
