HYDERABAD: BJP MP Eatala Rajender on Saturday called on the people of Telangana, regardless of their ideologies and political affiliation, to protect press freedom, as this would ultimately protect people’s freedom.

He was addressing the roundtable on “Press Freedom and Protection of Democracy” organized by journalists from Telangana Adhyayana Vedika at Somajiguda Press Club against the illegal detention and harassment of 43 social media journalists for posting media content contrary to the decision. establishment. Rajender said every time governments try to suppress press freedom, it means the start of their downfall.

He asked DGP Mahender Reddy whether it was police officers who took the journalists to torture them, or police officers linked to TRS leaders. Detaining and torturing scribes is not standard operating procedure, Rajender said.

Quoting the late US President JF Kennedy as saying that “when peaceful revolutions are made impossible, violent revolutions will become inevitable,” Congress spokesman Dasoju Sravan Kumar said that the party would provide legal aid if journalists were assaulted.
