Today, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican Whip Steve Scalise, House Judicial Classification Committee member Jim Jordan, House Republican Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson, Rep. Lauren Boebert, Rep. Scott Perry and Rep. August Pfluger held a press conference to discuss their legislation that would defund the Biden administration’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ and prohibit federal funds from being used to create anything of similar.

During his remarks, Chief McCarthy described President Biden’s “ministry of truth” as a “anti-American abuse of power”. He continued, “This is a ploy devised by the Democrats in Washington to give themselves the power to control free speech…House Republicans are working together to make sure it ceases to exist and that the taxpayers’ money never funds this Orwellian scheme.”

“I want to thank the members with me here today, including Reps. Lauren Boebert, Mike Johnson, August Pfluger, and I also want to thank Scott Franklin for his strong leadership on this issue.

“President Biden’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ is an un-American abuse of power.

“It’s a ploy devised by the Democrats in Washington to give themselves the power to control freedom of expression.

“They fear that Americans will have unrestricted access to information because it would challenge the power they want to have over people’s lives.

“And we already know what they will do with that control – they will manipulate the facts and discredit the truth when it interferes with their narrative.

“We saw it with the Russia collusion hoax. We saw it with Hunter Biden’s laptop. And we saw it all through Covid when liberals discredited facts that ended by extending closings and school closures.

“If there is any doubt that the Biden administration intends to exploit this office to manipulate information, look no further than the person they have chosen to lead this office.

“Nina Jankwicz defended government shutdowns, going so far as to say ‘get away’ and ‘lock us up’.

“She brought up the now debunked Steele dossier.

“And she worked actively to spread misinformation that has now been proven to be false.

“This person has no place in government, let alone an information watchdog role.

“President Biden’s ‘disinformation governance council’ must be completely dismantled.

“House Republicans are working together to ensure that it ceases to exist and that taxpayer dollars are never used to fund this Orwellian scheme.

“We will continue to stand up to preserve the rights of Americans.”
