Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said today that BNP policy is based on bullets, blood and bodies, not democracy.
“BNP does not believe in democratic standards and dialogue. And the party’s policy is based on bullets, blood and bodies, not democracy,” he told reporters, after speaking at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) to the city.
The Bangladesh Film Directors Association (BFDA) hosted the function marking its 40th founding anniversary.
Hasan said the dialogue organized by the president on the formation of the electoral commission is an example for many countries. The president is organizing dialogues to form an independent and neutral participatory electoral commission, he added.
He said many countries do not hold such dialogues before forming the electoral commission. But the BNP wants to try to make the initiative (dialogues) questionable because the party does not believe in democratic standards and in elections, he added.
The minister said they (BNP) came to power by bullets and stood over blood and bodies. BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had seized power by standing over the bodies, said Hasan, also deputy secretary general of the Awami League.
He said Zia’s wife Begum Khaleda Zia also came to power through underground alleys. BNP does not believe in democracy and elections and is always looking for back doors to gain power, he added.
The party (BNP) has no confidence in the people, he said, adding that for this they are trying to make the process of forming the EC questionable.
“They (BNP) are trying to create a situation where they can come to power through underground alleys. But that will never happen again,” he added.
Hasan said a participatory election commission was also formed the last time through the dialogue. “There was an electoral commissioner in the commission who always spoke in favor of the oppositions. Thus, it was also proved in the last time that the formation of an electoral commission through dialogue became effective. The various political parties in the country give their opinion and the president would take action. in accordance with the Constitution after considering the opinion he obtained from the dialogues, “he added.
Hasan said there was no possibility of doing anything that violates the country’s constitution.
Previously, the minister had laid a wreath on the portrait of the father of the Bangabandhu nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He inaugurates the function by hoisting the national flag, pigeons and balloons. The minister also inaugurated a free one-day medical camp and cut some cake.
In his inaugural address, Hasan congratulated the members of the association, saying there were many talented directors in the country.
The minister urged directors to make films that would also keep a role in building the state and society. He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formed the Film Artist Welfare Trust and started providing easy loans to build movie theaters.
BFDC Director General Nuzhat Yeasmin, Former BFDA President Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, Vice President Chatku Ahmed, Culture and Sports Secretary Shahin Kabir Tutul, among others, spoke under the presidency by BFDA President Sohanur Rahman Sohan.
BFDA General Secretary Shahin Suman headed the function.
