CAIRO, June 13 (Reuters) – Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa on Monday ordered a cabinet reshuffle including the appointment of a new oil minister, state media reported.
Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, who was the country’s envoy for climate affairs, has been appointed Minister of Petroleum and Environment, replacing Petroleum Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
The reshuffle included the appointment of Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani as Minister of Industry and Trade and Fatima bin Jaafer al Sairafi as of Minister of Tourism.
Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the reshuffle “will bring new ideas and renewed energy to continue advancing the public sector”, the state news agency (BNA) said on Monday. ).
Bahrain, a small non-OPEC oil producer, is one of the most indebted countries in the region, with its bonds rated “junk”. Gulf allies helped it avoid a credit crunch in 2018 with a $10 billion aid package. Rating agencies Fitch and Moody’s said Bahrain would likely need more financing from its Gulf neighbors.
