Arsenal press conference recap: Mikel Arteta on Liverpool defeat and January transfers

Mikel Arteta is set to face the press following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool at the Emirates in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
The Gunners start strong and hit the crossbar early on with a free kick from Alexandre Lacazette which is actually well saved by Caoimhim Kelleher.
However, they quickly started to fade after that and the Reds took the lead around the 20th minute when Diogo Jota’s weak drive left Aaron Ramsdale off guard.
From then on, Jurgen Klopp’s men took control before the break and could have doubled their lead soon after when Ibrahima Konate hit the post with a header.
The game then started to fizzle out as Liverpool were happy to let Arsenal have the ball and knock them to the counter. Eventually, they secured the crucial second as Diogo Jota’s second – initially ruled out for offside – was given by VAR late.
There was still time for substitute Thomas Partey to be sent off as the Ghanaian picked up two yellow cards in quick succession, the second of which was inexcusable for a player of his experience.
